Fun with Verbs & Sentences is an engaging application designed for children aged 2-5 who are transitioning to the use of complete sentences, understanding verb tenses, and developing foundational syntax skills. Following the favorable reception of the First Phrases and Picture the Sentence apps, this app represents a logical progression for young language learners.

The application showcases vibrant illustrations and features 266 animations that effectively illustrate action words, providing a modern approach to language teaching. Users can view a demonstration of the app on YouTube: YouTube Demo.

Designed for iPhone, this full version allows the visualization of early literacy concepts through left-to-right sentence building and proper sequencing of sentence components. The app supports up to 75 users or groups and includes comprehensive data tracking.

One significant feature is the "Watch & Say" activity, which invites users to witness animations designed to elicit sentences and various verb forms. Users can select from 39 verbs or opt for random choices while specifying targeted syntax forms.

The "Build a Sentence" activity enhances learning through interactive steps:

  1. Select a subject: Options include a boy, a girl, or a bear.
  2. Choose a verb: Users pick from three action choices related to the subject, such as draw, jump, or eat.
  3. Select an object or prepositional phrase: Choices correlate with the chosen verb (for instance, draw options may include a cat, spider, or dog).
  4. The app narrates each part of the constructed sentence slowly, promoting clarity before repeating at a normal pace. The accompanying visuals enhance retention.

Upon completion of the sentence construction, an engaging animation reinforces learning through visualization and sound effects. The child is then prompted to articulate the created sentence by comparing it against their recording.

For those integrating this app into therapeutic settings, features for data tracking can be enabled or disabled according to user preference.

Additionally, if past tense forms are selected, animations are shown singularly with reflective prompts regarding actions that occurred. Custom settings allow users to focus solely on verb usage while adjusting inquiry based on tense.

A rewarding component is introduced with the “Pop It!” Game, where children interactively pop bubbles on screen until they discover a chosen prize.

This application adheres strictly to privacy standards; no personal data is collected from users, and there are no advertisements or in-app purchases. A demo link offers insight into the app's features and connections to other offerings in the iTunes store.

Created by licensed speech-language pathologist Patti Hamaguchi, M.A., CCC-SLP, this app embodies expertise in language development while fostering an enjoyable learning experience.
